Jean's engagement story
My husband, even before I met him, is a Civil War re-enactor. We decided early that
we wanted to have a Confederate theme wedding. Well, of course, I kept mentioning the
ads from the - as he likes to call it - "damn diamond council" of how my ring should
cost him 3 months of his salary - hoping to get a nice big diamond of course. Well...
he did a re-enactment one weekend that I did not go with him to due to having to work -
and while he was there he bought me a "period" replica of a ring worn in the 1860's.
The ring is an amithyst and gold scroll work around it - very pretty - very antique-looking.
When he was on his way home from there he called me and asked me to put on one of my
re-enacting dresses as he would be there soon and wanted a picture while he was still
in his uniform. When he got home, he got down on one knee - in uniform - and presented
me the ring. It was all teary eyed and mushy until... he said " You know how you kept
telling me about the 3 month salary thing?" "Well, a Confederate Private in 1860 made
$13 a month salary - so here's your ring!" Thirteen years later we are still together with
2 kids now - so I guess it worked!! But I did get a 5 diamond anniversary ring on our
5th and a 7 diamond one on our 7th - hehe - he still owes me for the 10th!!
